«I’m much more interested in the material. I consider myself as a sculpture-painting artist»

Born in Tuscanny , Ubaldo Franceschini draws inspiration from a long line of ancestral artists as far as back as Baldassare Franceschini, better know as Il Volteranno, the great Baroque painter.

Ubaldo dives into the emotional act of painting using plaster and acrylic to express the moment without thinking.

He is driven by colour and form; his work has an ancient quality as he layers myriad colours over the top of previously dried layers of paint using shafts of plaster in between. He then reveals the pasts underlying treasure by scratching back and excavating the layers with odd-shaped instruments to produce different effects.

This process can take weeks until he is finally happy with the overall composition and balance of these fine examples of contemporary abstract paintings.
Ubaldo’s work has a magnificent impact when used in a contemporary space; his larger work (2m x 2m) is rapidly becoming his bold signature. Ubaldo has recently been commissioned to produce a series of large paintings for an impressive corporate client in the US.
