Marie Raymond’s works once again possessed that mysterious aspect reminiscent of her “surrealist” works from the early 1940s. Playing on the boundaries between abstraction and figuration, the artist populated this imaginary cosmos with anthropomorphic forms. Even in her darkest moments, Marie Raymond was searching for clarity. She wrote in an article published in the Belgian magazine +/0 in 1976: “‘The night is not the night’, because there will dawn, hope”.
