When did the painter Pablo Picasso start painting?

The artist Pablo Picasso painted his first oil painting at just eight years old in 1889. This work is entitled El Picador. He then attended art classes at the Instituto da Guarda where he made portraits and caricatures for the magazine La Coruna. The family then moved to Barcelona, where Picasso enrolled at La Lonja, the academy of fine arts. Picasso’s painting The First Communion was presented at the Exhibition of Fine Arts and Industry in Barcelona in 1896. Picasso moved to Madrid for a time in 1897, occasionally attending classes at the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando in the capital. In the same year, the artist’s work Les Derniers Moments was presented at the Exposition Universelle in Paris.
