Who was the painter Tsugouharu Foujita?

The modern Japanese painter Léonard Tsugouharu Foujita (also called Tsuguharu Fujita) is a major personality among avant-garde painters of the 20th century. This Japanese painter, who also took French nationality, combines the delicacy of Oriental painting and the audacity of modern Western painting in his work. Tsugouharu Foujita was an artist interested in all supports: a painter, draughtsman, printmaker, illustrator, ceramicist, photographer, filmmaker and stylist.
Born in Tokyo, he learned French in primary school. From 1907, he was trained in traditional Japanese painting, and then studied western painting at the Tokyo Academy of Fine Arts. In 1913, he moved to Paris hoping to become a great artist there.
