When Sanyu (1895-1966) arrived in Paris in 1923, the artistic life of Montparnasse was in full swing.
He found great freedom in the Academy of the Grande Chaumière, where he discovered the drawing of nudes from models.
This was an awakening into a new freedom for the young foreign artist, who made lively India ink drawings of the generously-shaped bodies who posed for him, as well as of his studio peers.
The selected works presented here by Sylvie Buisson and Philippe Cinquini, demonstrate just how modern this famous Chinese painter was.
