Who was the painter Bernard Buffet?
The artist Bernard Buffet was a leading figure in the post-war figurative art movement. He was a prolific artist, painting throughout his life with incredible energy and creating a colossal body of work. Through his work, Buffet explored all the major themes of painting—from major, well-known historical subjects to more trivial themes. Buffet also created prints and sculptures, which can be found at the Bernard Buffet Museum in Japan.
Born in Paris, Buffet developed a passion for painting from a very young age. He enrolled at the École Nationale des Beaux-Arts in Paris at the age of 15 and did not have to wait long to enjoy tremendous success in the art world. Buffet exhibited his work for the first time at just 18 years old at the Salon des Moins de Trente Ans in 1946.
