Niki de Saint Phalle and Jean Tinguely met in Paris in 1956. The two artists married in 1971. After Tinguely’s death in 1991, Niki de Saint Phalle took part in the creation of the Museum Tinguely in Basel, Switzerland.

Niki de Saint Phalle and Jean Tinguely moved in together in 1960, sharing the same studio. The two artists created numerous works of modern art together, such as Le Paradis Fantastique (a commission for the French Pavilion at the 1967 Universal and International Exhibition in Montreal) and the Fontaine Stravinsky (Paris, 1983).
